Hello!

Normally February is the coldest and most snowy month of the year here in Sofia, yet as I am writing this I am looking out at a green and bright garden, with snowdrops in full flower and the previous week saw record breaking temperatures on the Black Sea coast. With records being broken of the opposite kind in USA and Canada with arctic conditions and terrible flooding in the UK and northern Europe it does seem as if the world is going mad. Although a lack of snow is great for us here wanting to walk and drive around safely, it isn’t so good for the ski industry on which Bulgaria so much relies and also for the virus’s and bugs which seem to be so rife at the moment. I do hope that you are able to keep well and fight off the ‘flu and other ‘nasties’ that have laid a number of us in the club low for a while, including those on the board and in the office! Hopefully the snow is on its way to rescue the ski season and to kill off all those bugs.

February is of course the month of love when St. Valentine’s day (the day of lovers)is celebrated around the world and not just here in Bulgaria. Here’s to a romantic day for everyone on 14th!

As mentioned in my previous letter this year IWC – Sofia is celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary and we are planning a weekend mark the occasion. Please keep Saturday 26th April free as there will be a dinner and dance for that evening for current and past members and their partners and guests and for friends and supporters of our club. We want this to be a big success and a lovely occasion so start spreading the word now and contacting your friends, who were members who have moved away, inviting them to come. We are negotiating some special hotel rates for the weekend for those who need to stay but maybe some of you can put people up in your homes too? For those needing flights the earlier they are booked the cheaper they are so start inviting people now! We already have past members coming from America and other parts of Europe. An official invite will be sent to you by email so you can forward it on.

Happy February everyone!

Lynne
