On Saturday 7th June, The British Residence, home to HMA Jonathan Allen, the British Ambassador and his wife Liz and young family, was opened for the only the second year to the public. This year was particularly special as the house is celebrating its 100th birthday.
There were guides to show visitors around the official rooms with explanations about various antique furniture and special paintings.

Then on into the splendid garden where marquees and a British tea shop was set up. The cakes and tea had been made by staff and volunteers from the residence and embassy and were sold to finance the British stall at this year’s bazaar. Traditional British fare was on offer, including Victoria sponge cake, fruit cake, scones and shortbread.

In total more than 1000 people walked through the front door of the residence to visit on the day and 3000BGN was raised for charity. 1000BGN was donated to a charity which is helping Bulgarians to be self-sufficient by keeping bees. And the other 2000BGN was donated to the IWC British stall.
