Dear ladies,

Summer is here, though the Sofia weather still does not show that, it’s a fact. Most children have finished the school year and families are heading off for their summer holidays – near and far.

In the last month we had various interesting activities in the IWC.  A charity visit to the old people’s home in Petrovo was the most remarkable trip. Gratitude to all members who brought a clothes donation, it was much appreciated by the residents. A big thank you to the few ladies that took time off to come along on the journey!  Our visit made a difference – the residents and staff were expecting us and welcomed us warmly. We were delighted and impressed by the pleasant atmosphere, cleanliness of the home and the daily engagement of the people living there. The male occupants cultivate the wild bushy land and convert it into fruit and vegetable gardens and an orchard and the females make beautiful paper crafts that they sell at local festivals. This year they promised to make some decorations for the IWC Bazaar.

The IWC monthly lunch was fabulous – we ate delicious and beautifully decorated dishes created by top Bulgarian chef Machev at his emblematic restaurant Cactus. See full details in the next pages.

Gratitude to our member Asya Aleksandrova who hosted a private viewing and sale of some remarkable paintings, she was a gracious hostess laying out a light lunch, a fully stocked bar, chocolates, coffee and a homemade cake. If you missed it, you still have the opportunity to purchase some of the remaining paintings shown in the next pages at a special member‘s price.

Another big international celebration is 1st of June. I was invited by Foundation “For our Children”- one of Bulgaria’s top children charity organisations that we support, to celebrate the International Children’s Day in their care home in Sofia, along with over 100 foster parents and their kids. The organisation supports the most vulnerable children in the country. It was a fun morning, with activities, games, tasty treats and entertainment for all ages.

And finally it’s farewell time! This month we say “Good Bye” to 3 of our IWC ladies – our Italian members – Giusi and Federica, and our amazing bazaar coordinator Nicole Simmons, they will all leave lasting footprint in the International Woman’s Club – Sofia. Best wishes on your onward life journeys, dear ladies!

With love and respect,

Albena Jones
